BioFit NY- The Cure for Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a serious ailment that results in porous, weak bones. It affects over 3 million people each year and that number is rising. Most commonly, this disease affects males and females over the age of 50. Osteoporosis is most common in females. The bones become soft and weak and are MUCH more susceptible to breaks and fractures which can be extremely painful and costly.

There are many medications available to treat osteoporosis once an individual has been diagnosed. But what if you could treat it naturally or even prevent it from occurring in the first place? Well, there is an answer and it has been known for YEARS.

Back in the 1980s, Arthur Jones, the inventor and founder of Nautilus and MedX exercise equipment funded an experiment to study the affects of weight training on bone mineral density in osteoporosis patients. Naturally, strength training had to be performed slowly since the subjects were older and had brittle bones, so a slow motion high intensity training protocol was used. The results were astonishing. Bone density drastically increased along with muscular strength and conditioning. The subjects only trained twice a week with each session lasting no longer than 30 minutes.

The idea was simple; if the muscle became stronger, the supporting systems and structures must also become stronger to support it. The experiment proved it to be true. Although the exact science behind it was not known in the 1980s, we now know that the reason the bones strengthen when the muscle is strengthened is because of the magic of myokines.

Myokines are a type of cytokine which is a small signaling protein released by skeletal muscle when it is intensely fatigued. When the muscle is worked hard though intense contractions and fatigued, myokine signals are sent and received by other systems and tissues telling them to improve. The result is an overall physiological improvement in your entire body as the result of simple strength training!

The myokine effect is profound in the bone tissue as a result of strength training. Drastic improvements can be noted through DEXA scans with just a few months of progressive weight training. High Intensity strength training which we instruct at BioFit is clinically proven to be the most effective protocol available.

Just 30-60 minutes of BioFit strength training per week will be the most effective treatment and reversal of osteoporosis in men and women available. At the same token, you will be improving your cardiovascular system, endocrine system and every other system in your body which will allow you to live a long, healthy, active and productive life!
